Summer Vacation 2: Home Improvements
We did some home improvement projects!
Remember when the side room was a dingy cave with who-knows-what hiding in there? Those dark and gloomy days are over! Many thanks to Matt Glaser and The Floor Store, a longtime Shelby Park neighborhood business, for gifting us with the magic of flooring!
We received many intriguing and generous donations, including a fun carload of you-name-it from our friends at CycleSmith’s, a few bike trailers, and couple of folding bikes! These “new” items have been organized for your browsing pleasure by superhuman volunteers Will, Cory, Friedemann, Efran, and others. Thanks for the makeover, guys, we feel so pretty now!
And finally, we’ve given our entrance and hangout spaces a needed makeover. You’ve seen the before; come check out the after in person!!! Big thanks to Braylyn (IG follow #Roskotattoo) and the many volunteers who made this happen, we’re loving it!
Next time you’re in the hood, check out the summer projects of our Three Points neighbors (we’ll be at their block party on 9/5/15…yall come!), the new butterfly farm just down the street, and the new community space “The Park” on Shelby St. Summer has brought good things to Shelby Park 🙂
Summer Vacation 1: New Friends, Old Friends
We made new friends!
Feeling Lucky’s!! Big thanks to Christopher, Lucky’s Market, B4L, and KYMBA for a great Impact Day!
New Belgium Brewing Company invited us into their tent for the Parking Lot Bike Festival @ Gerstles. Brittney ran the circus, complete with crazy Louisville weather, and Nate & John got to meet and greet lots of new people. Big thanks to New Belgium and Brittney for the hospitality!
Speaking of bananas…Nate & Nad got up before the sun to help riders in the 2015 BikeMS (an annual fundraiser ride to fight MS) with their bikes. There were some seriously underprepared people out there, and Nad & Nate saved the day more than once! We enjoyed hanging with Clarksville Schwinn, our neighbors in event tent city, and the Chris Cakes pancake breakfast. Thanks to BikeMS for having us on the team!
Isn’t it great how those trails in Cherokee and Waverly parks just appear??
Uh huh.
Come out on the 1st and 3rd staurdays in the month to help KYMBA and the Olmsted Parks people build and maintain these trails! Tools and skill and water are available….all you have to do is show up and sweat a little 🙂
We caught up with old friends!
Year ago, when FCCB was just a notion, John & Bella shared the idea with the Center for Neighborhoods’ Green Institute and got some great feedback. This July, we attended the CN’s alumni party to share our progress and invite everyone to visit the shop. Thanks to CN and John Hawkins, FCCB alumnus and CN Program Coordinator, for inviting us out and for giving an excellent tour! And if you know of someone who wants to do a cool project in Louisville, the Green Institute is now accepting applications
We’ve gone international! While in Germany in July, John Krueger had the chance to visit with summer volunteer Malte. He is one of several summer volunteers who join our community while they are in Louisville on an internship.
A very nice mix of new & old (and male & female!) faces joined Andy and Dakota for an early morning workshop in May. It was a great group!
